LIVING CONDITIONS IN MAKKAH
for the Pilgrims Travelling through Haj Committee of India
In the past 2 years more than 2000 buildings have been demolished in Makkah by the local authorities for various projects including expansion of Haram Shareef, particularly in areas where Indian pilgrims used to be traditionally accommodated. Most of the Indian pilgrims like to stay near Haram Shareef and would like to attend all the 5 prayers in the Haram Shareef. However this has become difficult as availability of accommodation around Haram Shareef has become scarce.

As per Saudi regulations each pilgrim is entitled for space of 4 sq.mts. Pilgrims have to share their accommodation with others. Buildings are provided with licenses by Saudi authorities to accommodate pilgrims.
Each license also mentions the number of pilgrims to be accommodated in a particular building. Indian Haj Mission does not accommodate pilgrims more than the prescribed numbers. As per the norms of Haj Committee of India not more than 12 pilgrims have to share a single wash room (bathroom) and not more than 30 pilgrims have to share a single kitchen.

Pilgrims have to be mentally prepared to share their living space with other pilgrims.Makkah is a mountainous terrain and many areas in Makkah are located in inclined places. Pilgrims should be prepared to walk in inclined areas.
